Founded in 1978 under the chairmanship of Satish Kumar, shortly after the passing of E. F. Schumacher, the original Schumacher Society UK became an influential forum for advancing his vision of humane, ecologically responsible and appropriately scaled development, and helping to establish Schumacher College at Dartington Hall in 1991.
