This sub-fonds includes all the published materials (books, newspaper cuttings and printed ephemera) which Charles gathered over the years, as well as slides which he took or purchased. As well as being heavily annotated and marked with post-it notes, the books also contain news cuttings, manuscript notes, correspondence, contracts and other documents. They are therefore an integral part of the archive.
This sub-fonds is in the process of being catalogued and additional records will be added regularly.

System of arrangement
While archival arrangement usually prioritises intellectual arrangement over physical order, with this sub-fonds the two are considered to overlap. Charles consciously arranged the materials at both The Cosmic House and Portrack and this catalogue tries, where possible, to record and respect that arrangement.
